We had such a blast at Lea and Eric’s 3-venue Manhattan wedding at The High Line Hotel, ABC Kitchen and the NoMad Hotel on October 11! For their 5% donation they wanted to give back to two different charities, Doctor’s Without Borders and Food for the Poor, two charities that Eric’s mom was very involved with. It’s another “Event that Gives Back!”
An excerpt from the Doctor’s Without Border’s website:
“We are Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). We help people worldwide where the need is greatest, delivering emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from health care.“
An excerpt from the Food for the Poor website:
“Founded in 1982, our interdenominational Christian ministry serves the poorest of the poor in 17 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Thanks to our faithful donors, our programs provide housing, healthcare, education, fresh water, emergency relief and micro-enterprise assistance in addition to feeding hundreds of thousands of people each day.
Since its inception in 1982, Food For The Poor has provided in excess of $11 billion in aid (more than half of which was provided in the last five years) and has built more than 91,000 housing units for the destitute. In 2013, Food For The Poor constructed 6,808 housing units for families in need of adequate shelter. Total fundraising and administrative costs in 2013 comprised less than 5% of our expenses. More than 95% of all donations go directly to programs that help the poor.”
