We’re Expanding!

We’re so excited to announce that we’re expanding to DENVER!

I have always loved the Mile-High City but have fallen in love with it even more over the last couple of years, ever since the Association of Bridal Consultants conference took me back there in 2012.

The idea to expand into the region began to solidify after working on the Peridance Bazaar with our Denver based client who owns American Down & Feather. We began discussing and brainstorming ideas for events we could do for his company there and I was more than on board! Since I already have a solid network of friends and acquaintances that live there, the decision to increase business beyond this one event was easy.

We have started to build our team, bringing Kathryn Moise, our Lead Planner/Event Manager on board in NYC back in March, and Lauren Rush, our Business Development Manager in Denver this month. We’ll also be looking for day-of assistants in the Denver area so if you’re someone looking for freelance work, please be in touch! We will be doing the same type of events as we do here in New York; marriage proposals, weddings, social and corporate events.

Jonathan’s Rooftop Marriage Proposal!

On March 26, a crisp Spring day in Chelsea, our client Jonathan proposed to his boyfriend Michael at The Lodge, Gallow Green’s “winter” rooftop.

Jonathan first contacted me in February and told me about his plans to be in NYC (he lives in Alabama) at the end of March for a work trip and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to bring his boyfriend of 7 years and pop the question. He wanted a place that was unique and had an outdoor space but also wanted it to represent them as a couple. One of my first recommendations was the rooftop at Gallow Green.

The restaurant, The Heath, has an artsy, speakeasy feel that I thought would be perfect for dinner and entertainment pre-proposal (they have live music nightly), then have them move to the rooftop in a private area for the proposal. So after having a FaceTime call with Jonathan to see the space from Alabama he was sold! Well sort of. He, like most guys who plan to propose to their significant other, tend to have second thoughts on the location but I assure them that those are normal pre-proposal jitters!

The night went off without a hitch! Jonathan and Michael arrived to The Heath for dinner at 6:30pm and were seated right by the stage.

They’re in the booth in the far left corner (you can see the top of their heads).

At the end of dinner, and before dessert, we had actors from The McKittrick Hotel grab both Jonathan and Michael separately to take them on a “mysterious” tour. This was an excuse to get them to the rooftop where the proposal was going to take place. We set up the rings, a bottle of champagne and dessert in the private area where a firepit was burning.

Jonathan arrived first to prepare himself for the proposal, then about 10 minutes later Michael’s actress brought him to the proposal location (picture below).

Once Michael entered the private area he saw Jonathan sitting on the sofa. He had no idea what was about to happen! Jonathan begin expressing his love to Michael and the proposal began.

As you can see from the picture below as I was trying to take paparazzi shots from behind a pine tree and I thought I had been caught red handed by the direct look in my direction from Michael!

After some heartfelt words, laughter and maybe a few tears (mainly from me!) Michael said YES! I then jumped out from behind the pine trees and we celebrated with champagne, then they were off to see Sleep No More!

Happy New Year from KBNY!

In less than 12 hours we will be ringing in the new year whist toasting to champagne and contemplating resolutions for 2014. I always look forward to the beginning of a new year for many different reasons. I love reflecting on all the accomplishments from the previous year, setting new goals which challenge me to grow both individually and within my business, and looking ahead at all the possibilities for creating special memories with my clients and those around me.

As I ponder on the weddings and events that Karen Brown New York has been part of the past year, I can’t help but feel overjoyed. I am extremely fortunate to have worked with so many amazing clients and supportive vendors. You have all made my job so easy, even in moments of crisis. Memories were made, charities have benefited and we partied way past our bedtimes. 2013 was most definitely an unforgettable year!

Here is a video recap of our year in wedding and event planning and the song “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz was inspired by a client’s wedding where the bride sang this song to her husband in a flashmob performance. Enjoy!

Proposal at the MET!

Friday night my beau and I went to the MET Roof Garden & Martini Bar to unwind from a busy week. If you’ve never been I would highly suggest checking it out before the summer is over. It offers great views of southern Manhattan and an aerial view of Central Park. Every year the MET commissions a different artist to do a sculpture installation and this year is Cloud City by Tomas Saraceno.

Visitors must get a ticket in order to climb inside the structure and only two people are allowed at one time and only for twenty minutes. Knowing this made it all the more exciting when my beau and I witnessed a marriage proposal happening in the very top “cloud”! I noticed this specific couple because the girl was wearing a green dress which caught my eye. The next thing I noticed was the guy kneeling but I thought he might be taking a picture of the structure. Little did I know he was proposing to his girlfriend! This started to bring attention to the other rooftop visitors and when she embraced him with a hug the rooftop began to cheer and clap! I was so engrossed in watching this that I didn’t think about taking a picture until they were starting their descent. All I had was my phone so the picture isn’t that great but I wanted to share this wonderful story of two lives coming together!

If you’re looking for a unique place to propose in the city, Cloud City is definitely a place to keep in mind! The exhibit will be open until November 4, weather permitting.
